About the Manutius Trust

The book will initially be sold by the Manutius trust.
This trust was established with the sole purpose of publishing a book about the former family business Swets & Zeitlinger (1901-2014). A grandson of the founder, Adrianus Swets (1868-1950), is in possession of the family and company archives and has made them available to the University of Utrecht to describe the history of the company.

The trust is named after the 15th century Venetian publisher and printer Aldus Manutius (1449-1515). Manutius is considered the inventor of the ‘pocketbook’ and the italic font and was an early disseminator of (scientific) knowledge. Erasmus, for instance, wanted his translation of ‘Iphigenia in Aulis’ to be published by Manutius.

The trust is registered at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 76250121.
